Monthly Meeting & Demonstration - 14th April : Steve Jannar 'Traditional Landscape in Acrylics'

This month we are pleased to welcome Steve Jannar to our Monthly Meeting for April Tuesday the 14th at the Stans Stevens Studio, Deerubbin Centre, George St, Windsor.

Steve Jannar is a Sydney-based artist.  He is essentially a figurative painter and his earlier period was very much influenced by the Heidelberg School of Australian Impressionists, in particular by Streeton, Roberts & Conder and in more recent times by Sydney Long.  Being an architect had contributed to the fact that many of his earlier works included the built environment in the Australian vernacular.   Since 2008 he has returned to painting in acrylic paint rather than oil, is painting on a larger scale and freeing up his style – resulting in more dramatic works with greater impact.
He has exhibited in and around Sydney for many years and is also represented in overseas collections.  He had his first solo exhibition (‘Sydney or the Bush’ – oil paintings of Sydney, NSW & Northern Victoria) at the Balmain ‘Watch House’ in February 2004. In 2013 he had a local exhibition (sponsored by his local MP, Glenn Brookes) based on the waterways of the Georges River and Salt Pan Creek at Bankstown Paceway (including a 6 metre long painting of Boatsheds along the shores of Salt Pan Creek/One Tree Point).  Early in 2014, he shared an exhibition (with Michael Braden) which was held at the Balmoral ‘Bathers’ Pavilion Gallery.

Recent milestones include winning 1st prize & Highly Commended in the ‘Landscape’ painting section of the Sydney Royal Arts Show (Easter Show) 2007 & 2013 respectively, a contemporary work on a classic Bentley car for a Jane McGrath Charity Auction in 2008 and a finalist in both the Mosman & Paddington Art Prizes, 2011. In April 2014, he once again won 1st prize at the Sydney Royal Arts Show in the ‘Australian Birds and/or Flowers (in their natural setting)’ section.

Monthly Meeting & Demonstration - March 10th: Jim Flood 'Palette Knife Painting'

This month we are pleased to welcome Jim Flood to our Monthly Meeting for March Tuesday the 10th at the Stans Stevens Studio, Deerubbin Centre, George St, Windsor.

Jim was born in Sydney in 1941. In early childhood he showed a natural talent for sketching, drawing and painting and this has been his continuing passion throughout his life. After leaving school, he served an Apprenticeship as a Letterpress and Flexographic Printer and using this technical background, moved into sales in the Printing Industry.

Jim studied with the late Bill Golding and Otto Kuster and found oils to be his chosen form of expression. He was drawn to the use of the palette knife to produce the textures he wanted to achieve and is a member of Southern Cross Art Group.

Over the years, he has studied the landscape with its many hues and colours and has developed his own distinctive painting style. Jim’s impressionistic, modern, traditional paintings, encapsulate the colours of Australia and reflect his great love for the land, sea and waterways.

He is particularly fond of our native gum trees in all their mystery and majesty and recreates the feelings he experiences amongst bushland settings, capturing on canvas the peace and contentment he enjoys.

Jim loves travelling and exploring this wonderful country in search of inspiration and new subjects to paint.

Jim’s work is featured in private and corporate collections throughout Australia and overseas. He has held solo exhibitions, been featured artist and conducts master classes, workshops and demonstrations. Jim has also exhibited in international art exhibitions in Paris and New York.
