April 8th Monthly Meeting & Demo: Sue White

In April we will welcome Sue White for our Monthly Meeting on April 8th at 7.30pm in the Stan Stevens Studio, Deerubbin Centre, George St, Windsor.

Sue will be demonstrating the art of Chinese Brush painting.

Chinese or Oriental composition is quite different to Western approaches to art. The style tries to capture a 'moment in time', which might include only part of a larger subject. The Oriental way of presenting a picture, its framing and preservation are quite at odds with Western concepts.

Chinese Brush Painting does not seek to 'include every leaf'. Instead it contains only enough for recognition of the subject and its character - rather like a caricature. The attitude of the subject is all important. The interplay of the brush strokes, and the space surrounding them is carefully orchestrated. The relationship of the strokes to the edges of the paper must be considered while painting.

In 2014 Art in Action is once again on the Combined Art Societies of Sydney’s calendar, on the 16th, 17th, 18th MAY!

21 top artists will once again tutor over 45 workshops during the course of the three weekend, at the Merroo Conference Centre at Kurrajong and we would love you to join us there!

Attached is the 2014 Booking Form.   You will notice that there are several tutors who are first time tutors to Art in Action – portrait painter Lesley O’Shea, oil painter Steve Underwood, mixed media artist Patricia Reust from the TV series ‘Colour in your Life’,  and watercolourist Susie Murphie.  Also new to Art in Action is the Encaustics workshop (working with wax) with 2 new tutors – Cathy Garrod and Kym Morris (from MTAS :> )

Returning to Art in Action after a stint away will be oil painter Charlie Tong from Melbourne, and Acrylic artist Chris Seale from Queensland.  Once again Herman Pekel will return to Art in Action only this year Herman will be there for the oil painters. Using his incredible expertise he will tutor three workshops over the weekend using oils rather than his usual watercolour/acrylics.

Check out the attached Art in Action Booklet and take a look at the workshops there – there is bound to be a workshop that will be of interest to you, and we would love to see you once again at Art in Action.

The Art in Action details are also available on the CASS website –

This is a wonderful event that is just on our doorstep up in Kurrajong and very much worth attendance to learn and mix with top level excellent artists and friends.
